I first started practising yoga more than 35 years ago and was immediately enchanted by this ancient practice that brought so many obvious benefits. As I have transitioned through different careers, stages of life, the joys and challenges of parenting, I have come to rely deeply on my yoga practice. Not only to iron out my body day to day but also to develop my self-awareness and to seek internal peace as an antidote to stress. Yoga asana and philosophy has become my source of sanity, my mental-touchstone that I can take with me wherever I go and for as long as I live. To share yoga with others and see the transformative effects in people's lives is a privilege.
I have studied many ‘styles’ of yoga and in 2010 completed my full teaching qualifications with Judy Krupp and the Byron Yoga Centre. My primary influence is the Yoga Synergy style as developed and taught by Simon Borg Olivier and Bianca Machliss. This style is based on ancient Hatha yoga as adapted for modern bodies and lifestyles, and I thank Simon and Bianca for the incredible knowledge they have shared with me over the years. |
Layering on this initial training I continue to further my skills and knowledge. I completed Yoga Synergy’s Applied Anatomy and Physiology, and several courses with renowned teachers such as Donna Farhi, Sarah Powers (Insight Yoga), AG and Indra Mohan, James Fox (trauma-informed yoga), Cyndi Lee and Judith Hanson Lasater (Restorative yoga), along with visits to the US and India to further explore yogic philosophy. I am also grateful for the teachings and wisdom shared with me by mindfulness meditation teacher John Barter and online study with Tara Brach.
Following my interest in the healing that takes place with yoga, I went on to train as a psychotherapist, completing Advanced Clinical Training In Gestalt Therapy in 2021. Yoga and gestalt therapy are beautifully complementary as they are both about expanding awareness, rediscovering our sense of wholeness and then wrapping it all in compassion for self and others. Accredited with PACFA. I am pleased to now be offering personal therapy sessions, via zoom and in person, aimed at guiding people to return to their natural state of wholeness. Please Contact me if you would like to learn more about these one-on-one sessions. |
